Metal detecting is a fantastic hobby and the shear thrill of unearthing an object hundreds, if not thousands, of years old is hard to beat. I first started metal detecting in the autumn of 2001 with an entry level C-Scope (without headphones).

This was a very basic machine but it really helped me to get to grips with the fundamentals of the hobby without spending a fortune. I made some good finds with the C-Scope but without a discrimination setting, or any form of iron masking, I dug a lot of rubbish. Mind you, nothing new there :)

The metal detecting bug had bitten deep and I gradually upgraded to a Minelab XS2a Pro which is the machine that I still use today. Over the past few years I have been lucky enough to make some truly amazing finds both inland and on the on the beach. My all time favourite find is a decorated Bronze Age Flat Axe circa 1700 B.C.

Everyone is different but to me metal detecting isn't just about making finds. It's about getting out into the countryside or down onto the beach, just getting some fresh air and exercise.

I remember one particular summer evening. I was walking back to the car with my detector slung over my shoulder and feeling pretty miserable. I'd spent the last few hours digging up nothing but junk.

Then I realised that I was standing in the middle of an emerald green field on this beautiful summer's evening with an enormous expanse of blue sky over my head and I was free as a bird. I decided to count my blessings from then on.

Metal-Detecting.info will gradually expand over the months and years and contain plenty of aticles, tips and finds. I hope you enjoy the site and find it useful.
